BASIC COSMETOLOGY COURSE #1

HAIRDRESSING / NAILS - 1500 HOURS

COURSE DESCRIPTION:

This Basic Cosmetology Course is 1500 hours as required by Missouri law.  Full time attendance is defined as  five days per week, seven hours per day, Tuesday through Saturday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. with a one-hour lunch break, equaling a 35 hour week.  Part time attendance is defined as five days per week, 4 hours per day Tuesday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 7 hours on Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. with a one-hour lunch on Saturday, equaling a 23 hour week.

Freshman class time is spent learning the technical skills and theory of hairdressing, hair cutting, business, manicuring, product knowledge, Salon Success and State Law.  The curriculum is based on the Pivot Point training system and our own experience since opening the college in 1960.

 

Sophomore time is divided between the student salon and the classroom.  All the basics that were learned in the Freshman class are utilized as well as continued mannequin work that prepares the student for the State Board Exam. Sophomore are eligible for clients inthe student salon in the afternoons and on Saturday. 

Sophomore Class time is spent learning the technical skills and theory of hair coloring, permanent waving, hair cutting, iron curling, chemical relaxing, pedicuring, waxing and make-up.  Emphasis is placed on the study of hair structure and hair chemistry to help the student better understand what they are working on as well as the chemicals they are working with.

 

Junior and Senior training takes place in the student salon where the students work on clients.  They also continue mannequin work including preparation for the State Board Exam.

 

A designated part of each weekday will be spent in theory class learning cosmetology theory, human relations, psychology, salesmanship and self-improvement.  Tests are given over theory chapters as the subjects are covered.  The Pivot Point coursebooks are available for viewing on-line and students are issued a personal keycode to access the web site.

Utilizing Pivot Point's Designer's Approach educational library, our students, who are so committed to success, have the opportunity to experience tis exceptional educatijonal system - anytime, anywhere.

The Designer's Approach system not only educates the students on all prudent licensure-based content, but goes beyond to deliver salon-relevant training, all promoting mindful student learning.  Students have access to the six coursebooks and classroom learning materials and everything they need to build on success is available online.  They have 24-hour/7-day access to the following learning materials:

The 1500 hours of this course is comparable to hours required by some of the surrounding states.

 

nailsEDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES

At the completion of this course the student will have been trained to pass the State Board Exam and receive a professional cosmetology license enabling them to perform any standard cosmetology service required in the beauty salon or spa.  The knowledge and skills will prepare graduates for work as a hair stylist, salon manager, hair colorist, salon owner, product demonstrator, manicurist, pedicurist, etc.

ENROLLMENT AND ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS


Basic Cosmetology

Classes start on Tuesday of each seventh week and the entrance requirements are as follows:

 ·        Must have a high school diploma or GED certificate

·         Have attained the age of 17 before applying to take the State Board Exam

·         Provide proof of age - Birth Certificate or Drivers License

·         Provide two character references

·         Have a personal interview with a school official and pass an entrance exam

·         Four 2x2 pictures, taken within the last two years.

·         $25.00 money order payable to Board of Cosmetology & Barber Examiners.

·          Complete an emrollment form (supplied through the State Board of Cosmetology)

 

The Missouri State Board of Cosmetology requires a minimum of two years of high school before applying  for the Basic Cosmetology Course.  This College requires a Diploma or GED certificate.
