BASIC COSMETOLOGY COURSE #1

HAIRDRESSING / NAILS - 1500 HOURS


COURSE DESCRIPTION:


This Basic Cosmetology Course is 1500 hours, full time, over a period of approximately ten and 1/2 months, 35 hours per week, five days per week, seven hours per day, Tuesday through Saturday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. with a one-hour lunch break.  Part time is over a period of 16 months, 4 hours per day, Tuesday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 7 hours on Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. with a one-hour lunch on Saturday.

Freshman class time is spent learning the technical skills and theory of hairdressing, hair cutting, business, manicuring, pedicuring and Salon Success.  The curriculum is based on the Piviot Point training system and our own experience since opening the college in 1960.

Sophomore time is divided between the clinic and the classroom. Sophomore Clinic training takes place in the clinic working on customers.  All the basics that were learned in the Freshman class are utilized as well as continued mannequin work that prepares the student for the State Board Exam.

Sophomore Class time is spent learning the technical skills and theory of hair coloring, permanent waving, hair cutting, iron curling, chemical relaxing, and make-up.  Emphasis is placed on the study of hair structure and hair chemistry to help the student better understand what they are working on as well as the chemicals they are working with.

Junior and Senior training takes place in the clinic where the students work on customers.  They also continue mannequin work including preparation for the State Board Exam.

A designated part of each weekday will be spent in theory class learning cosmetology theory, human relations, psychology, salesmanship, self-improvement, and State Law.  Tests are given over theory chapters as the subjects are covered.

The 1500 hours of this course is comparable to hours required by some of the surrounding states.

EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES

At the completion of this course the student will be qualified to pass the State Board Exam and receive a professional cosmetology license enabling them to perform any standard cosmetology service required in the beauty salon or spa.  The knowledge and skills will prepare students for work as a hairdresser, salon manager, hair colorist, salon owner, product demonstrator, manicurist, pedicurist, etc.

Students are allowed 100 hours of absent time at no additional tuition charge. Any additional time required to complete because of absence will be charged for at a rate of $6.02 per hour. Fees for absence hours missed (beyond 100) are due on the scheduled graduation date. (A leave of absence will extend the scheduled graduation date.)Students may make payments on the additional fees in advance and money paid will be credited to their account.All regular tuition payments are due in advance each month.Tools, equipment and textbooks do not become the property of the student until all money owed to the college has been paid.

 

CURRICULUM -  Basic Cosmetology

Full time is ten months of continuous training consisting of not more than 35 hours per week or more than seven hours per day, Tuesday through Saturday.  Part time is sixteen months of continuous training consisting of not more than 23 hours per week or more than 4 hours per day, Tuesday through Friday and 7 hours on Saturday.

ENROLLMENT AND ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS

Basic Cosmetology

Classes start on Tuesday of each seventh week and the entrance requirements are as follows:

·         Must have a high school diploma or GED certificate

·         Have attained the age of 17 before taking the State Board Exam

·         Proof of age - Birth Certificate or Drivers License

·         Free of contagious disease / possesses good moral character

·         Have a personal interview with a school official and pass an entrance exam

·         Pay the $100.00 Registration / Enrollment Fee.   This fee is for processing all paper work and is non-refundable after three business days.  If the student decides to re-enroll at a later date, another $100.00 Registration/Enrollment Fee will be charged.

·         Four 2x2 pictures.

·         $25.00 money order for student license.

The Missouri State Board of Cosmetology requires two years of high school for the Basic Cosmetology Course.

The Missouri State Board of Cosmetology requires 1500 hours for the Basic Cosmetology Course.
