ESTHETICIAN - COURSE #2

SKIN CARE - 1500 HOURS

COURSE DESCRIPTION:

The Esthetics Course is 1,500 hours.  Attendance is defined as fine days per week, seven hours per day, Tuesday through Saturday, 8:30a.m. to 4:30 p.m. with a one-hour lunch break, equaling a 35 hour week.  This is a complete course in skin care which also includes training in full body care.



CIDESCO:


CIDESCO is the international organization for Estheticians who study skin care, body care, make-up and natural nail care.  Independence College of Cosmetology is honored to be the second CIDESCO school in the United States, having met all the requirements of this  International organization. This College follows a curriculum set forth by CIDESCO which is recognized world wide.

 

The Esthetics course is divided into three class segments with student spa training after each class segment.  The segments are as follows:  Segment A covers facials and waxing, Segment B covers full body massage, body machines and makeup, Segment C covers natural nail care, body treatments, reflexology and state law.  These segments are taught in rotation and may be covered in any order depending on class start dates.  The segments are delivered using lecture, overhead projector, DVDs and demonstrations in combination with practical experience by students.  A designated part of each weekday is spent in theory class learning esthetics theory, anatomy, human relations, psychology, salesmanship and self-improvement to name a few.  Exams are given over theory chapters as subjects are covered.

 

EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES:


At the completion of this course the graduate will be qualified to pass the State Board Exam and receive a professional Esthetician license enabling them to perform any esthetic service required in the beauty salon or spa.  They will be able to analyze and treat various skin problems through the use of massages, machines and products. They will be familiar with facial treatments, makeup techniques, microdermabrasion, hair removal techniques and the business practices of a skin care operation. The student will be knowledgeable in treatments for the full body, including massage, cellulite treatments, manicures and pedicures.  The knowledge and skills will prepare graduates for work in the esthetics field as a facialist, masseuse, makeup artist, spa owner, spa products representative or spa manger.  Students are eligible to sit for the international CIDESCO exam after 1,200 hours.

 

Estheticians at Independence College of Cosmetology are trained to meet the CIDESCO International requirements, besides the requirements for the State of Missouri. The following segments are included in this college's international esthetics course:

 

Facials – Facial Massage, Skin Care Products, Facials with machines - Electricity, Analyzing Skin, Facials on areas of the body besides the face (such as back, shoulders or chest), Extractions, Treatments of Different Skin Types, Skin Diseases & Disorders, Facial Paraffin, Glycolic Wash, Vacuum Massage Face Treatment and Microdermabrasion.

 

Massage – Swedish Full Body Massage, Full Body Massage with Aromatherapy, Full Body Massage with Steamy Wonder, Full Body Massage with GX99 machine, Chair Massage, Reflexology, Indications & Contraindications.

 

Body Treatments – Hydrotherapy, Microcurrent, Glacier Salt Glow (exfoliation), Mudd Fango (hydration, remineralization), Vacuum Massage Body Treatment, Theraffin Treatments for hands and feet, Kinesiology, Body Wrapping, Indications & Contraindications.

 

Make up – Application and Procedures, Lash and Brow Tinting, Tweezing, Eyebrow arching, Artificial Lash Application.

 

Manicuring & Pedicuring - Hand – Arm – Foot – Leg Massage, Manicuring, Pedicuring with or without Foot Spa or Massage Chair.

 

Hair Removal – Hard Wax for: Hairline, Brows, Sideburns, Upper Lip, Chin, Nape of Neck, Under Arms, Lower Arms, Upper Arms, Stomach, Bikini, Upper Legs, Lower Legs, Toes, Fingers, Upper Back and Lower Back.

 

Also included: CIDESCO preparatory Class, Clinical Business Practices, Professional Image, Salon Business, Selling Products and Services, Sterilization / Disinfection, Nutrition, Consultation, Indications & Contraindications, State Law and more…

ENROLLMENT AND ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS

Classes start on Tuesday of each seventh week and the entrance requirements are as follows:

·         Must have a high school diploma or GED certificate

·         Have attained the age of 17 before applying to take the State Board Exam

·         Proof of age - Birth Certificate or Drivers License

·         Have a personal interview with a school official

·         Pass an entrance exam

·         Complete an enrollment form (supplied through the State Board of Cosmetology) 

·         Four 2x2 pictures, taken withing the last two years

·         $25.00 money order payable to Board of Cosmetology & Barber Examiners for student license

 

The Missouri State Board requires two years of high school for the Esthetics Course.  This College requires a Diploma or GED.

The Missouri State Board requires a minimum of 750 hours for the Esthetics Course.  This course is 1,500 hours.
